APPAREL STUDIO // WINTER 2026
the splasher capri
The adjustable, lightweight, and comfortable outdoor capri pant.
brief
Managing moisture in performance apparel is far more complex than simply “keeping the user dry.” Athletes and outdoor users regularly operate in wet environments where comfort, safety, and performance depend on a nuanced balance between waterproofing, breathability, thermal regulation, drainage, dry-time, and material choice. At the same time, the sports and outdoor industry is navigating increasing regulatory and environmental pressure—particularly around PFAS and waterproof chemistries—forcing designers to confront real trade-offs between performance, sustainability, and business constraints.
For this project, I was to design an apparel product for a specific sport and user operating in a wet environment.
user demographic
USER: ADULT FEMALE SPENDING 2 4 HOURS PADDLE BOARDING IN COLDER AND POTENTIALLY LESS SUNNY ENVIRONMENTS
GOAL: HAVE THE ABILITY TO ENJOY PADDLE BOARDING IN COOLER CLIMATES WITHOUT NEEDING TO PURCHASE HIGH TECH GEAR
HOW CAN WE CREATE A WOMEN’S GARMENT FOR PADDLE BOARDING THAT PROVIDES SUFFICIENT WARMTH, ADJUSTABILITY & STORAGE DURING LESS SUNNY HOURS OF THE DAY?
inspiration
approach
PANELS: DARKER PANELS TO MASK MOISTURE BUILDUP
WARMTH: TARGETED LINING PANELING FOR COMFORT & WARMTH
LENGTH: BUNGEE SYSTEM TO SHORTEN PANTS WHILE MAINTAINING BALANCE
WAISTBAND: LAYERED WAISTBAND FOR WIND RESISTANCE & COMFORT
To wrap up this project, the goal was to deliver a full, working prototype, along with a process book, presentation, and poster, to showcase the thought that went into this product.
