FOOTWEAR STUDIO // SPRING 2026 // 4 WEEK PROJECT

Fosbury flyer

A high-jump spike that reimagines a PF Flyer silhouette using eco-conscious materials.

brief

Cotton is often perceived in the sports footwear industry as an "old-fashioned" material, associated with heaviness, lack of water resistance, and limited durability. This project challenges those perceptions.

Through this project, the idea was to explore modern advancements in cotton materials and investigate innovative applications of cotton and bio-materials in performance footwear design. You will also examine cotton's growing potential as a sustainable alternative in an industry increasingly focused on environmental responsibility.

The task was to research, ideate, and design a modern footwear concept that maximizes the performance attributes of cotton, including sustainability. The goal for the final design was to demonstrate a clear understanding of cotton's material capabilities and reflect thoughtful, brand-driven aesthetic decisions.

HOW CAN WE modernize a legacy pf flyer silhouette into a more sustainable high jump spike while meeting elite performance demands for lockdown, stability, and dynamic energy return?
